Project 1: Geometry and Form: Architectural Design Elements and Principles
For this project, I decided to use DATUM as my ordering principle. I explored datum in point, lines, and planes, ultimately creating my final model with DATUM in point and line.
01
DATUM in POINT
With triangles, I stuck two triangular plane to form a point on each stalagmite. This can be seen from the top. Furthermore, the stalagmite-liketriangles are also pointing at three different points whilst arranged in a continuous pattern.
02
DATUM in LINE
I revolved two layers of triangles- with the inner layer being smaller and the outer layer being larger, around a Perspex bridge, connecting these triangles to achieve regularity.
03
DATUM in PLANE
Using irregularly shaped triangle planes, a continuous structure is formed with a flow starting from bottom to the top; left to right.
04
DATUM in POINT & LINE
This is the final product after exploring datum in three different ways. My idea was to create a wave like structure surrounding a center point. The balsa wood used are in multiple sizes and lengths, allowing datum to be seen as a continuous pattern formed from irregular lengths. From the top, point can be seen in the center whereas from the side, line can be seen throughout.
Tattoo Stamps
These were the first four tattoo stamps that I created. Looking back, I am proud that I have improved beyond this and have shown my improvement in my final project. Here are my floor plan, side elevation, top elevation and section of my final model.
Self- Reflection:
This project has allowed me to gain a deeper insight about ordering principles. It was my first time making models and creating tattoo stamps for the models made as well, so it was a great introduction towards architectural design.
