Architectural Design 1
It is the end of semester 1, I realized I have grown a lot in terms of my knowledge regarding the basics of architectural design. Through exploring different ideas and concepts during these 14 weeks, I have come to understand more about different design principles and elements. I also gained more clarity regarding human anthropometrics. Lastly, I became more conscious of how materiality along with everything else I learned can affect the spatial quality experienced by a user. Following this self-reflection, the projects I have done during this module are shown below and further explained. There are 3 projects in total.
The design project introduces basic understanding of the design principles, processes and approaches in generating ideas, developing design and translating it into forms in a workshop based exploratory studio.
Project 2 called “MY Bamboo” requires students to design and construct a 1:1 structure for a specific action. In groups, students will design and construct a 1:1 structure for a specific real dormant green space to activate its use. Students will be working with bamboo and required to understand the nature and characteristics of the material and demonstrate basic knowledge in construction.
Project 3: Space and Sensory: Self Exploration through Spaces
Project 3, termed “Space and Sensory” requires students to re-examine their 1:1 structure from Project 2 and further develop it into a series of sensorial spaces. After studying the role of elements and principles in design composition in Project 1, and the role of anthropometrics and ergonomics in the design of spaces in Project 2, they will now examine the role of the senses in the creation of architecture.
Reflection:
After going through 14 weeks of this module, I definitely have learned more appropriate and efficient ways to model make. This is due to having face to face lectures and also multiple tutorials in the studio. I was able to gather opinions and advice from my peers and tutors, which lead to my improvement.

The module was carried out by the lecturers effectively, as I have seen much growth especially comparing my first project with my final project.
